Northwest Medical Center Begins $46 Million Expansion

Last week Northwest Medical Center, which primarily serves northwest Tucson, Marana and even Oro Valley, has broken ground on an expansion that will add a new surgery wing and will add 4 minimally invasive operating room suites.  The Surgery Center already has 12 OR’s in the hospital.

Kevin Stockton, Chief Operating Officer for Northwest Medical Center suggested the expansion would be complete within the next 20 months.

Northwest Tucson, Marana and Oro Valley are growing at a significant rate.  With the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) work that is  planned or completed, transportation corridors will contribute to accelerated population and business growth.

COO Stockton said the one-story expansion will be built at the end of the current surgical wing at the east end of the building.  This strategy will facilitate an additional three floor addition at some time in the future. Nationally recognized commercial construction company, Layton Construction, will handle the 70,000 SqFt addition.

This is great news for the area, adding capacity for large scale trauma related events such as those seen on I-10 over the last few years.  It will also help the facility address the growing demands placed n it by an increase in aging population as more and more baby-boomers move to the metro-Tucson area.
